Hi, I am Dr. Candice, a daughter of God, mom of a teenager, and joy igniter with a vivid imagination. I remember waking up in the morning with what seemed like a million thoughts running through my head: Did I send that email? Is Kyla awake? Why didn’t my friend respond to my text? Does my boss like me? I tried to suppress all of those thoughts, so I could start my day. But the flood of thoughts just kept swirling around in my head causing me to overthink and get stuck . . . I finally realized that my mind was a battlefield and the way I was going to win the war in my mind was with the word of God. I prayed and began to dig into my Bible. I started to meditate on God’s truth. I wrote scriptures on index cards and even took them with me to work. I printed out declarations and taped them on my bathroom mirror. I started to memorize scripture again, just like in Sunday School. The negative thoughts began to flee as I replaced them with God’s word. I was super pumped to interview Taya Cowan, a powerful young lady who when the opportunity presented itself, took a step of faith, applied, and then attended Harvard University (not knowing a whole lot about the institution initially :)). Taya graduated from Harvard in 2021 and is now a financial advisor with Northwestern Mutual in Louisville, KY. Taya shares her story as a first generation college student and how she has always wanted more for herself and craved bigger and better. She had some ambitious goals and is now helping other reach theirs. We have a rich conversation about mentorship and even financial planning. I know you are going to enjoy.

Hi my vSL Family,
I was blessed to have a conversation with a dear colleague-for-life, Molly Prince. Molly and I worked together in the College Counseling department at Louisville Collegiate School and boy did God put us together!!! Molly and I loved on each other as well as our students each and every day. She was a breath of fresh air and I enjoyed every moment with her at school. Molly has been an educator for over 30 years and has held various roles such as Director of Summer Programs, Coach, Math Department Chair and Math Evangelist (she still carries this title :)), and most recently Director of College Counseling. Molly enjoys working with students and encouraging them in their strengths, whether their strength is being a rock-star Calculus student, or as a really good friend. Molly sees and pulls out the good in others. In her spare time, Molly CRUSHES ironman competitions! She is FIERCE. Molly has recently transitioned from the school setting to working with her husband Scott in their business, Prince College Counseling. We have a rich conversation that I know you are going to enjoy.

First, I give some shoutouts to some amazing listeners and follows of the podcast. Then, I share takeaways from a teaching I just listened to by Leif Hetland, "Healing the Orphan Spirit". The teaching is embedded in a program called, Wealth with God. And it was sooo rich. Leif shares his testimony about abuse and leaving home at an early age, getting caught up in drugs and alcohol and the coming home. Leif's teaching reminds me of who I am in Christ and when I walk in my rightful identity, I already have. And because of what I have, I do. I am no longer an orphan. I have been adopted as a child of God and He already approves of me. I don't have to win His love or try to perform to receive anything from him. Yes, Lord. I hope you enjoy these takeaways. Greeting VSL Family,
I'm documenting the journey. I've mentioned before the struggle with food addiction, specifically sugar. I was running well and then got back into some old habits. I believe that one moment, one word, can change everything. That happened for me on July 16, when I sat right next to a dear sister who shared her testimony and then Pastor G preached a message on staying focused and eliminating distractions. For me, I heard, get back to discipline. There is a major part that I play in walking out my deliverance. I am free and I have to choose everyday to stay free. Food/sugar will NOT be an idol in my life.

My girl, Kennina Latoya Porter. A powerful woman of God. A pioneer and trailblazer . An innovative disrupter. A system shaker and shifter. A girl with an apostolic calling and gifting on her life A doulos, a servant of God. A minister of the gospel, a bible scholar. (LOL, she would probably be rolling her eyes at me, LOL). Kennina didn't need all the titles. She did the work with heart and soul, with God, in grace. A lover of God's people, especially his young people. She lived to see others discover and walk in their God-given purpose.
I am grateful to God that He allowed me to meet and connect with Kennina. We shared soooo many good times. In this episode I share a little bit more about who Kennina was to me and so many. Kennina is with Jesus, waiting and worshipping, and at rest, at peace. I'll see you soon, sister. Your assignment on earth has been fulfilled. Well done!!!!!!!!!

I am fresh off from youth camp (Culture Camp 2023)... let's go SONIC BOOM! (LOL) IYKYK. I am grateful to God for the opportunity to be apart of camp and be there for our middle, high, and a few college-aged students. It was incredible. We are left wrecked from encounters with Jesus like no other. God is faithful. I also share about what has been a struggle for me. I am determined to keep my eyes fixed on Jesus in the journey ahead. Hey my amazing VSL Listeners,
How many of you have experienced disappointment? You had things all planned out from top to bottom and things did not go as planned. YIKES. I have been there before. Things are going to happen that you did not plan...it may knock you totally off your feet. BUT, you can GET UP and MOVE FORWARD from disappointment. I went from disappointment to denial to delight. How? WITH GOD. It has a been a journey. I am grateful that I am not the same Candice. In this episode I share four "ways" that were helpful to me in walking out my process of moving forward from heartbreak, hurt, and disappointment. I pray that this blesses you.
